Samsung, Toshiba to Reach New Patent Cross-license Deal

Samsung and Toshiba announced on June 22 that they have entered into a new cross-license agreement for NAND flash memory technologies, Reuters reported on June 22. The new agreement will be the renewal of the previous patent cross-license deal signed between the two companies, which was valid from September 2002 to March 2009, according to a Korea Herald report on June 25. The duration of the deal will be seven years (until 2016), during which time Samsung and Toshiba will continue to have the right to access each other's patents covering the use of NAND flash memory patents in various areas. Specific terms of the agreement, however, were not yet disclosed Aside from Toshiba, Samsung recently renewed a similar agreement with SanDisk.
